The wee sign as you leave the metaled road behind and embark on the final few miles up a rough track is a good clue as to the remoteness of this cottage! One of just a handful up at Scoor, your position is spectacular, set on the rugged hills above not one but several stunning shell-sand coves at Traigh Bhan na S’gurra and Kilvickeon.

2 The Bothy at Lochbuie

This charming wee cottage beside working Laggan Farm is another one with a sense of adventure required to reach it. Like Ploughman’s, you’ll be following rough farm tracks for the final stretch to reach the cottage, cornering some dramatic bluffs and unveiling stunning beach and sea views as you do.

3 Aird Ghlas at Carsaig

Tucked away on the Carsaig Estate, which hugs the black sandy beach of Carsaig Bay and is flanked by dramatic headlands, you feel in your own little world here. The cottage sits on the estate, so you’re not totally isolated, but have gorgeous views down to the sea and beach. Red deer roaming the grasslands beneath the cottage will often outnumber the humans around!

4 Derryguaig Smiddy on Loch na Keal

Perfectly positioned in the foothills of Ben More, this former blacksmith’s cottage offers mountain and sea vistas from its cosy stone walls. Walk from the cottage door towards the river and discover an enchanting series of waterfalls and pools. Soak up the summit views of Mull’s only munro. Wander seaward to the shore for wildlife watching galore.

5 Rocking Stone Cabin in Lochbuie

Purpose-built to nestle into the rocky bluffs beyond it and with sweeping panoramas over the sea at Lochbuie, out to the very remote Laggan peninsula and with walking trails from the door straight out towards Glen Byre, this contemporary cabin brings together a taste of the wild with a serving of luxury too.

6 Kilbeg Lodge in Glenforsa

A short drive down a forestry track delivers you deeper into the glen and makes the main road feel much further away than it is. Surrounded by open farmland, forestry and with beautiful walks along the River Forsa from the door, you could not get in the car again all week. But the highlight has to be the beautiful views of Ben Talaidh framed so perfectly here, with the chance to see deer, harriers and eagles from the window.

7 Mabel Cottage in Lochbuie

Another idyllic Lochbuie cottage set down the estate tracks, this one is a little closer to reach than the properties at Laggan, but still offers the fantastic wildlife and walking of Lochbuie from the door. Fallow deer are known to visit the garden and you get a beautiful blend of wilderness and creature comforts, with the perk of the Old Post Office Café still being in walking distance too!
