A coastal haven hidden on the remote and rugged Carsaig Estate, Aird Ghlas has been lovingly renovated to offer a restorative stay amid some of the island’s finest coastal scenery, perched above the sands of Carsaig Bay with a dramatic view to the headland that flanks it.
Arriving at Aird Ghlas, unpack with ease with private parking just beside the property. Pass through the gate into the enclosed garden and the view unveils itself down over the beach and bay – one you’ll struggle to peel your eyes from during the course of your stay, as you notice the nuances of the changing tides, the visiting wildlife and the quality of light as the weather changes.
Entering Aird Ghlas into a roomy hallway, you’ll immediately feel pulled towards the open-plan kitchen, dining and living room, where the patio doors frame the same stunning sea view glimpsed from the garden on arrival.
The compact kitchen is well-equipped with all the essentials to self-cater in this remote setting, including a full-size fridge freezer and electric oven and hob, as well as the convenience of a dishwasher and washing machine too.
A wee dining area sits to one side opposite the sea view, with drop-leaf table edges should you have a larger spread to serve, while a plush sofa occupies the other wall, so you can sit back and socialise as dinner comes together.
Throw open the patio doors on long Hebridean summer nights and enjoy a glass of fizz sinking back into the chairs at sunset, or enjoy a seafood supper as you watch the tide roll in from the picnic bench.
Returning to the hallway, the compact double lies opposite with a plush king-sized bed, twin bedside lamps for a cosy atmosphere and quality linens promising a deep sleep.
Next door lies another room with a day bed and some hanging space for clothing, with the bathroom adjacent. The large walk-in shower will prove oh-so inviting to refresh after a salty dip in fresh seas, with a WC, basin and heated towel rail too.
Aird Ghlas is a cottage from which you could easily spend the entire week exploring without once jumping back in the car. Hike to hidden waterfalls, follow the headlands to Malcolm’s Point or set out on the challenging tidal adventure to the Carsaig Arches. This is a setting where you can expect a huge dose of adventure and vitamin sea.
