In a tranquil corner of the Carsaig Estate, one of Mull’s most remote settlements, you’ll find Carsaig Cottage Westand its neigbour, Carsaig Cottage East. The two attached cottages promise a true island escape, with beautiful coastal views framed by dramatic headlands. It’s a wild and wonderful place, where red deer will far outnumber the residents, and you’ll be more likely to share a beach walk with seals and seabirds than other people.
Arriving at Carsaig Cottage West, enter into a spacious and well-presented porch with ample space to pack away your binoculars and scope, camera gear or hiking poles. Continue on into the immaculately presented dining kitchen, with all the equipment to self-cater with ease in this remote setting and a sociable dining table with bench and chairs.
The kitchen leads onto a hallway with the staircase and access to all other rooms on this level. The living room is a really inviting space, elegantly furnished with comfortable sofas and occasional chairs, characterful artwork and a cosy wood-burning stove for whatever the island weather brings. The windows frame the wonderful sea views.
There's also a useful WC on the ground floor, along with a door into the garden with a beautiful gravel seating area, complete with comfortable Adirondack chairs, in which to sit back and relax as you watch the tide roll up the beach, or spot birdlife in the bay.
Moving upstairs, the cottage offers flexible sleeping arrangements with a sea view, king-sized master bedroom, a twin bedroom that can be configured as a superking on request, and a cosy third bedroom with day bed and extra pull-out single bed. The family bathroom is also upstairs with WC, basin and large shower.
Hikers will be in their element here. Start your day with a stroll along the black sand beach. Watch the tides reveal new wonders and the surrounding wildlife in its natural habitat, from seals basking on the skerries to gannets descending in dramatic dives.
The granite pier offers a great spot to soak up the action with a picnic, or simply to set up your scope and scan the ever-changing skies and seas.
Those with a sense of adventure and suitable skillset will also enjoy the challenging longer distance hikes the area offers. Heading west from the beach is the beginning of the difficult trek over challenging and sometimes tidal terrain to the Carsaig Arches, while east a similarly technical route delivers you to Glen Byre and then onwards to the scenic shores of Lochbuie too.
