Things to Do

Thanks to the charming village location, you'll never feel far from amenities at Cill Bheag, with the bright lights of Tobermory only 20 minutes' drive too. Yet the setting is still immersed in nature as you cast your view to the hills that surround the village and venture down to the edge of loch Cuin, with the river Bellart flowing into the tidal head of the loch here too. Just above the village, there's a charming lookout point and bench close to the Kilmore standing stones, which makes a great spot to soak up the evening sunset with far-reaching views out to sea and neighbouring islands of Coll and Tiree.

Naturalists will be in their element with the tidal estuary, sea loch, open hill, forest and reed beds all in the surrounding area, attracting a plethora of birdlife from divers and waterfowl to the dramatic eagles, with otters and seals no stranger to the sea loch too. Wildlife tours depart from the village with Nature Scotland, offering an expert guide to the island's wild inhabitants and a great way to begin your holiday, with plenty of tips to make use of during the remainder of your stay.

Keen walkers will also be well rewarded. A number of forestry tracks lead out of the village, reaching round to loch Torr, stretching into glen Bellart or venturing over the Quinish Estate, where you can hike out to Quinish Point for stunning coastal views.

North west Mull is home to some of the prettiest white shell-sand beaches, with the horseshoe-shaped bay at Calgary only 10 minutes' drive away. There are plenty more coves to discover too that are less well-known, including the lovely bay at Langamull and several pretty beaches around Croig, including Port na Ba.

While you're exploring the coast, a visit to Lip na Cloiche garden at Ulva Ferry comes highly recommended, where you can explore surprisingly tropical plantings amid driftwood finds. A short distance away you can also summon the ferryman to take you across to the community-owned Isle of Ulva, enjoy lunch at the Boathouse and explore one of the many trails that explore this wee island, with great views back across the water to Mull.
