Settled on the hillside on the fringe of the village, Cill Bheag enjoys a peaceful setting with amenities in easy reach. Fields and forestry surround this upper end of the village, with plenty of tracks for off-road dog walks, and in the opposite direction, views out to the distant hills on the far side of Glen Bellart.
Arriving at Cill Bheag, you can unpack with ease from the paved driveway just beside the cottage with parking for two cars. The cottage is spacious from the outset, as the front door leads into a roomy entrance hall, with the kitchen and utility to the left and the spacious dining living room to the right.
The kitchen is a sociable and light-filled space with central island and breakfast bar, a charming dresser and casual seating, so all the group can come together when whipping up meals or making morning coffee with the DeLonghi machine. Just off the kitchen is a spacious utility, with washing machine, dryer and a back door to the garden – ideal for tidying up muddy paws after a walk.
Moving to the living room, the double aspect windows bring the outside in and frame the dining area beautifully. The space feels warm in every sense with whisky-inspired features adding character and a wood-burning stove at the heart of the room.
There’s also a beautifully appointed bathroom on the ground floor, complete with free-standing bath tub just beckoning for a hot soak after a wild swim at one of the nearby beaches at Calgary, Croig or Langamull.
Venturing upstairs, Cill Bheag offers three roomy and beautifully appointed bedrooms, plus two further bathrooms. The king-sized master double is en-suite with a walk-in shower, WC and basin, oodles of storage space and comfy occasional chair too. Decorated in a tranquil palette, the space feels restorative and peaceful – a good night’s sleep is guaranteed here.
The second double is also king-sized with a comfy sofa seating area and chest of drawers, while the twin next door also has drawers and a dressing table too. These two bedrooms are served by a second bathroom upstairs, which has a shower cubicle, WC and basin.
Surrounding the cottage, there’s a pretty gravel garden to the front with a bench and raised bed planters, framed by a low stone wall, and to the rear a nice paved patio with dining table and chairs. A lovely sun trap from which to catch the westerly sunset as the fading light turns the distant hills tones of amber, pink and red.
