Bunessan Explore the area, things to do and more

The experience begins before you even step inside, as you soak up the sea views from the purpose-built patio at Rowan Tree Lodge, with vistas across Loch na Lathaich and westwards towards the rugged Ardmeanach peninsula in the distance beyond. This is a space you’ll return to for evening night caps watching the wonderful westerly sunsets, or at first light as you scan the hills for roaming deer, all conveniently covered by a roof, so you can enjoy Mull alfresco whatever the weather.

Entering the lodge, light fills the space thanks to the triple aspect windows that bring the outside in, with the comfortable sofa positioned to never feel far from the view. There’s also an armchair, television and wood burning stove, making the lodge a perfect choice in every season.

Behind the sitting area lies the beautifully appointed kitchen and a wee dining area for two. With a wooden breakfast bar and quality finishes, Rowan Tree Lodge feels like a true home from home. Perfect for cooking up the catch of the day, freshly landed from the owner’s fishing boat!

Retreating deeper into the cabin, a corridor leads to the master suite. With a beautifully lit dressing table, king-sized bed with built-in television and custom cabinetry, the bedroom feels more akin to a luxury hotel. A quality the en-suite mirrors, with a large bath tub for relaxing soaks, WC, basin, heated towel rail and separate shower.

Located in an elevated position in the village of Bunessan, enjoy the convenience of a pub and village shop in walking distance, making it simple whether you wish to self-cater, or let someone do the cooking for you. A short drive further west leads to Fionnphort, with another pub, cafe and the superb Creel Seafood Bar on the ferry slipway.

The Ross of Mull is famed for its white sand beaches and you can explore these with ease from Rowan Tree Lodge. The bays at Uisken and Ardalanish are just a few miles away, with crystal-clear waters and shell-strewn sands. Those keen to make the most of the coast will also enjoy exploring by sea, with boat trips sailing from nearby Fionnphort to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles, as well as the CalMac passenger ferry to the magical island of Iona.
