Loch Don Explore the area, things to do and more

You won't find many cottages closer to the sea than this! Ardwhin Cottage sits right beside the sea on the shore of Loch Don in Mull's south-eastern corner, only 10 minutes from the village of Craignure. This is an excellent area for wildlife, with a wide variety of birds frequenting the loch throughout the year, making it the perfect base for birders.

Ardwhin has been renovated to a high standard and has superb views over the water and of the mountains of south Mull. On arrival, there is private parking in the driveway, and you enter the cottage via the conservatory which has staggering, panoramic sea views. Settle back into one of the comfortable sofas and you can watch as the tide rises and falls for the ultimate relaxation.

A doorway leads through to the main living room. Here, a large wood burning stove, comfortable seating and a selection of books and games help make for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. There are original artworks by local artists throughout the house, which add a homely, personal touch.

The kitchen, at the rear of the property, is well equipped and also has abundant natural light from the windows and French doors, which open out onto the seating area and rear lawn. Leading off the living room is the dining room, which has a beautiful table, comfortable chairs and a cosy little wood stove. This is a great room for family meals and chat after a day of island exploration.

Climbing the cottage the staircase (relatively steep stairs typical of an old cottage of this nature, which may not be suitable for guests with impaired mobility), guests will find the sleeping accommodation leading off the landing. To the right is the double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, which includes a bath, shower, basin, w.c. and charming porthole window. Stay in this room and you don't simply get a comfortable bed and ample storage - you get to wake up every morning to your very own sea view.

On the left is the second double bedroom also with original paintings, fantastic views and storage space too. To the rear of the cottage is a twin room with views of the trees and grasslands behind the cottage. The main family bathroom is also off the landing and is well equipped with a powerful shower, bath, basin and w.c. Bed linen and towels are provided for your stay at Ardwhin.

Ardwhin Cottage is perfect for anyone looking for a self-catering cottage on Mull that offers a high standard of furnishings and a great position, right by the sea. Care has been taken by the owners to make this a wonderful base for your holiday, particularly for nature lovers and walkers, as the tidal loch makes this area a haven for birdlife. Binoculars and scopes can be set up in the conservatory and there are great walking opportunities right from the door.

The cottage is only 10 minutes from Craignure, where there is a cafe, a couple of options for evening meals, a pub and Spar shop with post office. There is also the community swimming pool, spa and gym in Craignure too, as well as a golf course, just north of the village. Tobermory is a 45-minute drive north, as is Fionnphort, to the west, where boats can be caught to Iona, Staffa and the Treshnish islands.
