Things to Do

This particular area of the island is well known for its interesting geology and superb coastline. There is rich marine and bird life in the area and plenty of opportunities, during the summer months, to head out on a boat to one of the smaller islands off Mull's west coast. Iona is a popular day trip and can be easily accessed as a foot passenger on one of the regular ferry trips heading across the water each day. There are gift shops, tearooms, hotels and pubs as well as the historical Abbey and nunnery to explore on Iona, not to mention the great beaches there too. Staffa and the Treshnish islands are also recommended and give people the chance of seeing basking sharks and whales.

There are plenty of walking opportunities around the coast, with some truly stunning stretches and white sandy bays for those willing to explore. On the south coast of this peninsula there are some dramatic cliffs and Carsaig arches are a well known landmark which can be reached on a narrow coastal path which sits below the cliffs - a eight mile return trip on a rocky path, but well worth it (care should be taken). Ben More sits at the head of Loch Scridain too for those wanting climb the highest mountain on the island, or for a more sedate choice, just pick a spot anywhere on the coast of the loch and see what comes your way...
