Enter stage left! Prepare to be wowed by the The Old Little Theatre. This unique self-catering cottage is located in Dervaig, on the Isle of Mull, and offers outstanding luxury accommodation for two with a luxurious feel and atmosphere like you’ve never experienced before.

Set within the grounds of a former Kirk Manse, The Old Little Theatre is a superb conversion of the building that was once used as the Mull Little Theatre – recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest professional theatre in the world, seating just 42.

Today the original stone building has been extended, with a contemporary extension that offers guests a stunning wall of glass from which to admire the views over the glen below and sea at Loch Cuin. Designed and lovingly furnished by the owners, the interior reminds guests of its past, but adds a contemporary twist of luxury and drama. From the theatre seats on the wall, as you enter the porch, to the romantic sleigh bed in the bedroom, guests will be bowled over by this wonderful holiday cottage's striking design features. The Old Little Theatre was featured in The Sunday Times '50 Best Summer Cottages in the U.K.' and it won’t take you long to work out why.

The sweeping gravel drive at Druimard leads to the Old Little Theatre, where guests have their own parking space directly outside the property. ‘Ticket holders’ entering the building will find a roomy porch and theatre seats that provide a useful and theatrical perch for removing footwear. There is ample storage for coats and other belongings here too.

From here you enter the open plan living, dining and kitchen area – a stunning space, opulently furnished and featuring original artworks and bespoke woodwork. The ‘stage’ is set for you to relax by the wood stove with comfortable seating, fur throws and cushions. The bold colours, natural materials and sweeping red curtain add to the ambience. A choice of books about the local area and games are provided along with television and DVD player. The area is beautifully lit, and the forest trees cast shadowy detail, blending with the furnishings and artwork. Evenings whiled away here will be a real treat.

The kitchen is very well-equipped with modern, quality appliances and cookware in a striking and dramatic grey colour with a minimalistic feel. Tableware is again of the highest order and both folding chairs and theatre seats are provided for dining. Two steps lead through the red tin archway to a conservatory that offers superb views over the surrounds - a great place to set up the telescope or just enjoy a drink!

On the opposite side of the house, the bathroom is beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix of old and new. From the Moorish floor tiles to the large antique mirror and luxury toiletries, everything has been carefully placed to make an inviting space. There is a large walk-in shower and a roll top, freestanding bath – perfect for two. The utility room provides an extra storage space for guests.

Walking through the hall and dressing area, where mirrored wardrobes provide storage and light, you round the corner and enter the show-stopping bedroom. A large sleigh bed faces a wall of windows, which invite guests to wake up to far-reaching views every morning. The room is beautifully appointed with soft furnishings and blankets, a comfy chair, original artwork and your very own ‘stage star’ dressing table. Again, the mix of furnishings and attention to detail make this space seriously special. Doors open out to the decking, which runs along the front of the Old Little Theatre and is covered overhead, so you can enjoy sitting out, no matter what the weather.

The building itself is nestled among mature trees, in an elevated position, above the reed beds of the River Bellart. Guests can walk to the village centre within 10 minutes, passing the sea shore at Loch Cuin and the picturesque Kilmore Church. The oldest Inn on Mull, the Bellachroy, serves lunches and evening meals and has a bar too. There is also a well-stocked village shop offering a range of local produce and all the basics.

Tobermory, Mull’s main town, is less than 20 minutes to the east by car and offers a great range of eateries and shopping opportunities too. Heading west you reach the stunning white sands of Calgary beach within 15 minutes and some fabulous coastal scenery and walking opportunities. One thing is for sure, you won’t find another holiday cottage on Mull quite like this one.
