Aros Explore the area, things to do and more

A true home from home in a setting surrounded by nature, Sallachy promises welcoming accommodation for up to six guests in the peaceful settlement of Aros on the island's east coast, with scenic walks down to the shore to the ruins of a 16th century castle, or following the river into the woodland and deeper into the glen, from the front door. This is a house where you'll enjoy your morning coffee to the tune of birdsong as you gaze down the glen and return home to the cosiness of a wood-burning fire and perhaps a wee dram from the local distillery of an evening.

Entering the cottage through the sun porch, a hallway leads to the living room, kitchen, ground floor bathroom and bedroom. The living room is a large and light-filled space, with comfy sofas to settle down and relax into while you soak up the views across tranquil woodland and the nearby hills and the multi-fuel stove flickers away. With double doors leading into the kitchen, the layout feels sociable, something that is only enhanced by the convivial breakfast bar and second seating area, guaranteeing the chef will never feel far from the action. A formal dining room leads off the kitchen too, setting the scene for evenings of feasting after a day of adventure exploring the island, as well as a useful utility room too.

The ground floor bedroom is a well-presented double with lovely leafy views and is conveniently served by a shower room also on the ground floor, with a large corner shower, WC and basin.

Venturing upstairs, two further bedrooms and the family bathroom await, with both bedrooms again enjoying natural views down the glen. Both are large bedrooms, with one a twin bedroom and the other a king-sized master, offering flexible accommodation for families or groups of friends. The bathroom is well-appointed and modern, with a bath tub for relaxing soaks after a day climbing the hills or combing the beaches, as well as a walk-in shower, WC and basin.

Sallachy is set in a large enclosed garden with several sitting areas to enjoy morning coffee or dinner alfresco and take in the tranquil setting. There's parking for two vehicles too.

Tucked above the single-track road at Aros, overlooking the forestry that leads to Loch Frisa and into Glen Bellart, Sallachy feels wonderfully peaceful and connected with the island's natural wonders that surround it. And yet Tobermory, the island's harbour town, lies only 15 minutes distant, where you can hop aboard boat trips and sail around Calve Island or out to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles, enjoy a wide range of eateries and cafes, or explore the museum, aquarium and distillery tours.

Even closer to home, only two miles from the house lies the village of Salen, with a well-stocked shop and range of cafes that will soon become daily visits for well-earned coffee and cake after a hike in the local area, a morning of wildlife watching, or perhaps even on the water, with kayaking and paddle boarding available in Salen Bay too. A short drive westwards from here delivers the wildlife-packed National Scenic Area of Loch na Keal too, making Sallachy the perfect choice for those keen to enjoy the great outdoors and its wild inhabitants.
