A cosy cottage that effortlessly blends character and contemporary, Geat nan Croisean stands at the crossroad between Cailach and Calgary, just half a mile’s walk up the hill from the stunning white sands of Calgary Bay.

Arriving at the cottage, which shares a driveway with Fernbank next door, continue through the gates into Geat nan Croisean’s private fully enclosed parking area, with space for up to two cars. Closing the gates behind you, the garden is fully enclosed, so if you’ve a four-legged friend with you, the holiday can begin as soon as they leap out the car!

A series of steep stone steps lead up to the front door, which in turn opens into a spacious porch, with plenty of space to stow beach gear and binoculars. There is alternative access at the rear of the property that is flat from the side gate. Moving into the cottage, the accommodation occupies the ground floor of this spacious property.

To the left lies the wing of the cottage dedicated to living, dining and relaxing, while to the right are the sleeping quarters.

The heart of the home, the large open-plan dining kitchen extends along one side of the cottage, offering charming views over the prettily planted garden to the hills and farmland.

The quality kitchen, complete with Nespresso coffee machine and all the mod-cons for an effortless self-catering stay, flows to the dining table, offering a sociable experience for the entire party, and on to a cosy sitting nook for two, with views through the patio doors to the garden and landscapes beyond – a spot that will be enjoyed, whether chosen for morning coffee, or for a nightcap of the local single malt.

Through double doors from the dining kitchen lies the living room. With triple aspect windows, this space is another bright room, with feature lighting to add ambiance too. There’s a cosy wood burning stove, smart TV and very comfortable sofas to sink into after a day exploring the coastline to Cailach Point or an evening dog walk along the beach.

Venturing back to the sleeping quarters of the cottage, a family bathroom leads off the hallway with a bath with overhead shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail, within a short walk of the three spacious bedrooms.

The master double is a lovely large room, complete with super king-sized bed, storage for clothes and an en-suite shower room.

Next door lies the second double bedroom, another spacious room also with the luxury of a super king-sized double, and then the twin bedroom, with two single beds that can be configured as a third double (zip-and-link) on request too. The bedrooms all enjoy tranquil garden views.

Outside, the landscaped garden beckons, whether you choose to dine alfresco on the stone patio, or cosy up in the sitting area and congregate around the fire pit at dusk. Fully enclosed and with established hedges and flowerbeds, the gardens here feel just as beautifully crafted as the cottage itself, making Geat nan Croisean a cottage you'll want to write home about - inside and out.
