Kilfinichen Estate Explore the area, things to do and more

Fisherman’s Bothy is perhaps the ultimate romantic holiday cottage on the Isle of Mull. This old, stone-built thatched cottage is set just yards from the sea, on the shore of Kilfinichen bay. It is hard to picture a more idyllic setting and the bothy blends beautifully into the surrounding landscape - a perfect example of a traditional Hebridean cottage, with a gorgeous pink finish!

A short gravel track leads off from the single track road that traverses the west coast on the island, passing The Dorran, before coming to an end at Fisherman’s Bothy, where there is a parking area (please note; the bothy now has a garden fence since images were taken). A low beamed entrance (mind your head!), leads into the entrance hall, with space for coats and boots.

To your left is the living room, which also doubles up as the bedroom in the evenings. The room is thoughtfully furnished with a sofa bed; chest of drawers; dining table and chairs and a wood/peat burning stove for the evenings. It's a lovely intimate space, with a pale grey vaulted ceiling and tiled floor. Some simple contemporary touches add to the ambience and make this a really inviting and cosy space to relax in after a day exploring the island.

To covert the room into the bedroom, you simply lift the sofa cushion support which is attached to a self-folding mechanism that guides the bed into position. The bedding is stored in a wicker hamper beside the sofa and towels are provided too.

The kitchen is located at the opposite end of the cottage and is well appointed, with all you require for self-catering. There is also an under counter washing machine and a ‘scotch dryer’ which can be raised and lowered on a pulley as required. The well appointed bathroom comes complete with shower unit, basin and w.c.

Outside Fisherman’s Bothy there is a patio area with table and chairs, perfect for dining or just enjoying a drink and the wonderful views! This is an exceptional setting and the views over Kilfinichen Bay are stunning, with the tide rising and falling in front of the cottage. There is much wildlife to be seen in the area including otters, red deer and eagles.

From Fisherman’s Bothy you can enjoy some superb walks in the surrounding area, launch kayaks in the bay or enjoy some of the superb cycling on offer, along winding single track roads.

Just across the loch in Pennyghael is a charming pub serving great food. Fisherman’s Bothy is equidistant from three villages; Salen, Craignure and Bunessan, all can be reached within a thirty five minute drive.

Boat trips depart from both Fionnphort and Ulva ferry exploring Staffa and the Treshnish Isles and Iona, with its rich history, is also lovely day trip from the cottage. Tobermory, the island’s main town, is a longer trip, just over an hour's drive away,

Fisherman’s Bothy is perfect for those seeking an extra special holiday experience, be it a honeymoon or writer's retreat; you’ll be sure to love this gem of a cottage.
