Lochdon Location for Hazelbank Cottage

Hazelbank Cottage is situated on the outskirts of Lochdon, a fifteen minute drive south-west of the car-ferry terminal at Craignure. It's a great location for exploring all parts of the island. Tobermory, the main village on the island is a 45 minute drive away, as is Fionnphort where boats depart for Iona and Staffa.

The cottage is situated on the edge of the Auchnacraig Estate - a 4,500-acre peninsula bordered by the shores of Loch Don, Loch Spelve and The Firth of Lorne. Much of the estate is a site of Special Scientific Interest due to its diverse geological composition and its woodlands; and it has magnificent views in every direction - particularly towards the mainland where Ben Nevis is visible 40 miles away. A truly stunning corner of Mull.

Nearest village: Craignure (3 miles)
Drive to ferry terminal at Craignure: 8 minutes

Things to Do

There are lots of lovely walks on the estate. You can walk along the coast from the bridge around Lochdon estuary to look for birds, or explore the small sandy bays down at Grasspoint with its rocky coastline. There''s even a walk along a rough track to the abandoned village of Gualachaolish (accessed from the main road) and there are pockets of pristine woodland to explore as well as the summit of Carn Ban.

A 15 minute drive from the estate will take you to Craignure where there are a couple of eateries and a Spar shop. Just outside of Craignure you will find the new swimming pool, gym and spa at the Isle of Mull Hotel. Relax in the outdoor hot tub, have a relaxing massage or go for a swim in the new pool. A couple of minutes up the road from the hotel you'll also find the Craignure Golf Club. Duart Castle is also only a short drive away from the estate.

White tailed Sea Eagle can be seen all year round from Lochdon and Grasspoint, also regularly seen are Golden Eagle, Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrow Hawk, Tawny Owl, Short eared Owl and Hen Harrier and the occasional Barn Owl, Merlin and Peregrine Falcon. Red Kite have been seen in autumn on migration and the occasional passage Osprey calls into Lochdon, most often in spring and autumn.
