Things to Do
The cottage is in one of the less populated areas of the island, out of the way, with beautiful natural landscape to explore from the doorstep. Apart from the hours of beach combing, walking and cycling, you might like to set aside some time for a little photography, bird watching or painting as Shepherd's Light definitely lends itself well to those seeking relaxation and artistic pursuits as well as outdoor enthusiasts.
In terms of local points of interest, the west coast has some excellent opportunities for day trips. You can take a boat out to the Treshnish Islands or Staffa or visit the Isle of Ulva. For evening meals, Ballygown offers great home cooked food and there is a beautiful garden to visit at Lip na Cloiche.
A little further afield, Calgary and Dervaig offer more entertainments in the form of a wonderful white sandy beach, tearoom and gallery at Calgary, and Dervaig (20 minutes drive away) has a village shop and the oldest inn on the island (with restaurant). Am Birlinn (near Calgary) serves lunches and evening meals too. Tobermory is a 45 minute drive away from the cottage where there is an arts centre, theatre, range of shops and eateries too.
