Grasspoint Cottage is perhaps the ultimate Hebridean escape by the sea. This traditional crofter's cottage sits right at the tip of the Grasspoint peninsula, and from its elevated position has outstanding sea views on three sides, as well as excellent views toward the mountains of Mull and mainland Scotland.
This is a really romantic spot for those looking for a cosy cottage in this stunning part of Scotland. The area is renowned for its abundant wildlife and the chances of seeing otters, red deer and white tailed eagles are more likely than not. Many guests have seen porpoises and dolphins passing too.
If you are looking for a modern home with a fitted kitchen and swanky bathroom, though, this isn't the choice for you. However, if you want a rustic crofter's house with history and character, then 'Archie's Cottage' will delight. Entering the cottage, there is a good sized porch, ideal for storing boots, coats, binoculars and camera tripods.
From the porch, a low doorway leads into the main living space. This is a traditional open plan layout, with the wood stove at one end and the dining table at the other. There are two armchairs and a coffee table by the stove, and the double bed is also in this main living area.
There is a good selection of books and games, and the cottage is nicely decorated, featuring artwork and paintings often inspired by the local area. There are three good sized windows in the main living space, each looking out in a different direction, all with equally amazing views of the surrounds. The kitchen is a separate room off the main living area, as is the bathroom, which has a large roll top bath, basin and toilet.
The area surrounding the cottage is beautiful. With wild grasslands and rocky coast along with a sandy bay just 50 metres from the door, the location is pretty hard to beat. There is also a very nice old pier, which is good for boat and kayak access, fishing and looking for marine life. There are a number of nice walks starting right from the cottage door. Try the walk along the shore line of Lochdon to the old humpback bridge if you like to choose your own track.
Make sure you book your holiday in advance to enjoy this relaxing, self-catering retreat, perfect for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Grasspoint is also home to Old Ferry House, the only other property close by. This beautiful house can be hired in conjunction with the cottage, but is far enough away so that guests staying here enjoy privacy.
