Adjacent to Tiroran House and gazing straight out over manicured grounds and down past expansive gardens to the turquoise blue sea at Loch Scridain, Gardener’s Cottage is a cosy bolthole for two with a phenomenally good view. But that’s not the only outstanding feature of this cottage’s location, because Tiroran also offers prime otter spotting territory, awe-inspiring walks at Burg out to McCulloch's Fossil Tree and – of course – the Whitetail gin distillery and licensed coffee shop are just around the corner too.
Gardener's Cottage is located on a private 60-acre estate, neighbouring the Tiroran Community Forest, so with a Tiroran self-catering cottage as your base, you could count red deer, eagles and even wild goats as neighbours.
Pull up in your own gravel parking area in front of Gardener’s Cottage, which sits adjacent to the main house. There’s a perfectly positioned bench to the front to take in the view on sunny days and inside the bright porch you’ll find plenty of room to hang coats, store walking boots and put away dog leads.
Perfectly designed for two, the cottage's porch leads on to an open plan living area at Gardener’s Cottage. There’s a cosy seating area with a sofa and armchair, plus a window seat to take in the sea view. Beside the other window is the dining table. Floral, poppy-themed artworks and soft furnishings pay homage to the cottage’s name.
The characterful kitchen with statement splashbacks will instantly catch your eye with its quirky style. Small but perfectly formed, the kitchen includes an electric oven and hob, an under-counter fridge with a freezer compartment and a dishwasher. There’s also a country style dresser, stocked full with servingware.
If you fancy an evening off cooking, stock up on some of the homemade ready meals prepared at Tiroran and sold at the Whitetail Coffee Shop just around the corner - you can even order the week before you arrive to have the meals ready in the cottage for you on arrival. The deliciously stocked breakfast hamper will also be a welcome treat, containing fresh produce including fruit, eggs and milk, as well as homemade bread, cereal jars, tea, coffee and sugar, not forgetting the complimentary Whitetail gin and tonics, produced on the Tiroran Estate, complete with expert suggestions for the perfect serve, to indulge in later on.
Both the bedroom and bathroom lead off from either ends of the living space. The bedroom, which can be configured as a super-king or twin, is sumptuously furnished with cushions and throws and promises another stunning glimpse of the sea from the window. Timber-lined, white-washed walls make the space cosy and characterful, with a dressing table and pretty pegs running the length of the wall to provide hanging space.
Reached from the other end of the living area down a small step is the spacious bathroom, featuring a large walk-in shower with a step up to access, as well as a basin and W.C. Luxurious White Company towels, robes and toiletries are provided.
To the front of the cottage, Tiroran’s picturesque grounds spill away to the sea. Spend the mornings exploring the differently themed gardens, crossing the wooden bridges and following the burn’s cascade of pools and waterfalls down to the water’s edge. A gate provides direct access to the shore, where dogs will love the opportunity to swim and wildlife enthusiasts will be well catered for.
Nearby, explore the dramatic wilderness scenery of Burg and MacKinnon's Cave, which each of Tiroran's self-catering cottages is well positioned to reach, and the Ross of Mull’s stunning white shell-sand beaches. Tobermory lies under an hour’s drive to the north, with its vibrant harbour and artisan shops, and boat trips may be taken from Fionnphort in the south west corner of Mull, leading out to Staffa, where you will be wowed by the acoustics of Fingal's Cave and the charming breeding puffins in season.
