Ardchrishnish sits atop a lofty perch on its own private peninsular at the mouth of Loch Scridain. From this private and elevated position, you’re in the prime (and exclusive) position to soak up stunning panoramic sea views, both up toward the head of the loch and the Mull mountains, and also out to sea and the surrounding islands. The location of this cottage is seriously special and offers some brilliant wildlife watching opportunities too.
Ardchrishnish is situated in Mull's south-western corner, a 10-minute drive from the village of Bunessan. This area of the island offers fantastic white sandy beaches, rocky headlands and excellent wildlife and walking opportunities.
This large holiday house comfortably sleeps up to ten people. All of the bedrooms have terrific sea views, and are nicely furnished with a complementary mix of antique and contemporary items. All but one of the bedrooms are upstairs off the main hall, the other being located on the ground floor - very useful for the less mobile visitor.
The house is entered via the front porch, which then opens out into a large hall, where there are useful benches and storage for boots and coats. The dining room is on the left with a beautiful antique French dresser, large dining table and double aspect windows. A wall pass through into the kitchen is a great feature for cooking and serving meals, and allowing for some family banter during food preparation!
On the right of the hall is the ground floor double bedroom. This is a very nice room, well furnished and with those unbelievably great views. Further along the hall is the door to the kitchen, which is well equipped for cooking and dining, has plenty of storage and a nice breakfast table too. A long corridor leading to the main living area has two bright and airy bathrooms and a useful utility room leading off it.
The main living room is arguably the showpiece of the house and, thanks to the large windows, it feels very connected to the stunning outdoor surroundings. The room has two areas, the first has a table for drinks or games with a glass paned door that opens directly out to the garden, and the second is the main seating area, which is very comfortable with a great wood stove and breathtaking views out of the four large windows.
There are a good range of books about the local area, board games, a television, music player and wi-fi internet provided to help make this a relaxing and enjoyable space in which to unwind. There is ample seating, nice lighting and some interesting furniture and ornaments, but it’s the views, perfectly framed by the windows, that will capture your attention.
The house has a large fenced garden, which has a big picnic table and, again, the lovely views! This is a sunny position that always gets a nice breeze even on a still day. A short 50-metre walk from the garden gate takes you to an old OS trig point, from which the 360-degree view also makes for an excellent perch for some wildlife watching. During the summer months dolphins are frequently seen in this area of the loch, and sunsets to the west over the Atlantic Ocean are not to be missed.
There is ample parking beside the house, which is reached via a pretty winding driveway from the main road. This is a house that you will want to come back to again and again, with views you’ll never forget.
