Achleck Cottage is perfect for those looking for a characterful property in a beautiful setting in north west Mull. The cottage oozes rustic charm and has an eclectic mix of furnishings and beautiful artwork. This isn't a house with all mod-cons and contemporary fixtures and fittings, but if you like olde-world charm and don't mind exposed walls, quirky finishing touches and a homely feel, then this is a great place for a holiday.

Located in a stunning riverside position beside ancient woodland, Achleck Cottage on Mull’s north-west coast is a fantastic base for a holiday, especially if you love to get outdoors. The cottage has a beautiful location with a garden and lawn (complete with sandpit) to the front bordered by a beautiful river. There are also extensive wild gardens to the rear of the cottage, great fun for all the family.

Footpaths start from the doorstep and hills rise up beyond the woodland to offer stunning panoramic views over the sea and Treshnish islands. There is also a useful outbuilding guests have access to where bikes and outdoor gear can be stored. This truly is a cottage where you can explore Mull’s majestic and wild landscape from the doorstep!

Entering the cottage via a roomy porch with space to hang coats and put boots, there is a bright double height hallway with a white timber staircase. To your left is the kitchen, a lovely room with country charm, a large gas cooker/range and Belfast sink with great views over the garden and river. The cupboards are rustic, in keeping with the old, country cottage style of the property.

Beyond the kitchen is a large utility area with fridge freezer, leading to the bathroom and backdoor. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, w.c. and basin.

Also on the ground floor is the living room. This is a cosy room with comfortable seating, an excellent range of books and a wood burning stove, as well as a television with DVD player and some board games. The house has been sympathetically restored with furnishings, pictures and ornaments that give it a certain style and charm. The house also benefits from wireless internet access but please note the connection is slow (fine for checking emails).

Upstairs are two bedrooms; to the right the twin room with a wash basin, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet, and to the left the double bedroom, with an antique chest of drawers, easy chair, handmade wooden bed and shelving. Whichever room you choose for your stay, you’ll wake every morning to stunning views over the river and woodland beyond. Bed linen and towels are provided for your stay.

Another aspect that makes Achleck Cottage such a gem is the immediate surroundings. At the end of a row of houses, Achleck has a lovely garden bordered by ancient woodland; a mix of hazel, rowan and oak. From here you can watch some stunning sunsets at the end of the day. There is ample parking available on a gravelled area in the cottage grounds. The cottage is private and there is no passing traffic.

In the surrounding area of Kilninian is the beautiful beach, Traigh na Cille (five minutes in the car and a five-minute walk down to it) and an historic chapel. To the south are the beautiful open gardens at Lip na Cloiche, with crafts and plants for sale, as well as excellent lunches available at The Boathouse on the Isle of Ulva (a five-minute boat trip required).

Five miles to the north is Calgary beach, one of the best on the island, and there is a tearoom here and a well-regarded restaurant ten minutes away. The village of Dervaig is just a little further on where there is a traditional pub (serving food), a supermarket and post office.
