The track... - a Citroen C3 had no real issues, though I imagine the approach could be intimidating in the dark if you didn't know it. Otherwise to be thoroughly recommended (and we were blessed with most un-Octoberish weather!)

Very comfortable and characterful cottage, as remote as anyone could wish, but with a very demanding rough and hilly track as the only access. One end of the cottage had better heating than the other, but in every other way a wonderful base for exploring the island and participating in local life.

A very special place ! A fabulous house with everything we needed. Even a loo with a view !! Amazing wildlife on the doorstep. Some fabulous beaches a short drive away. Good pub and shop nearby. Our hosts Tom and Teifi and their beautiful collies were so lovely. The perfect hosts. We were very sad to leave, but hope to be back soon. Thanks for letting us share this special place.

Amazing as always, we’ve stayed in Tor na locha about 6 times and have been coming to the island for about 19 years, the cottage has new owners and have made great improvements, Tom, his partner and their 2 amber collies couldn’t have been more helpful.

Beautiful cottage in the most stunning location with views to die for. Tom and Teifi were super friendly and helpful. The cottage was extremely welcoming, clean and well equipped with everything (and more) we could have needed. We travelled the entire Isle, down every single road and saw everything - otters, deer, eagles and visited Lunga to see puffins. Could not recommend Torr na Locha highly enough. We will definitely be back,

What an amazing place! We stayed here for a week and could have stayed forever. Mull is a beautiful island. Richard and Tom were responsive and helpful without ever imposing. I would highly recommend this cottage.

Super cottage in delightful surroundings. We loved how remote it was and the peaceful atmosphere. Went on an island nature tour early in the week which is a must and found golden eagles, sea eagles and otter which were all within a few miles of the cottage. Tom was very helpful and a great host. Weather was super kind all week apart from one day which really helps. Would have liked a better barbecue though to enjoy cooking outside.

Absolutely beautiful cottage in the best location. Amazing walks from the cottage, loved the "fairy glen" from the back gate.
    Cottage was very well equipped.
Garden was secure for our dog.
Others have mentioned the lane, just go slow (we have a V60 4x4)
WiFi was hit and miss but your booking a cottage in a remote location...its to be expected.
So much space, inside and out.
Highlight of the holiday was watching deer and a stag in the field opposite.
    We can't wait to return.

A wonderful cottage in a great location with plenty of peaceful walking space all the way to the seashore. The only thing lacking was good weather, which didn't bother our two dogs at all. Had a couple of helpful local knowledge chats with Mark the Crofter when he came to to check the horses. If you take the time to just sit and look around there is a lot of wildlife to be seen Yes, you need AWD and take it slowly.

Lovely well equipped cottage in a remote location. Unfortunately not blessed with great weather so could not enjoy outside space with bbq and woodburner and walks.
The access road was fine for my Rav4 AWD (used daily) and also for T-roc as has higher level floor clearance - only used for arrival and departure. Just drive slowly with care!!
As to be expected occasional blip with WiFi but usually works in at least one room.... managed to watch football on laptop with ethanet connection available
Overall a lovely break was enjoyed by all.

We had a great week at Torr Na Locha - the house was comfortable and well equipped, with good walks directly from the cottage door, sometimes in the company of the two ponies! The light on the sea and surrounding hills was an ever changing delight - with so many photographs taken to remind us of this happy week! Thank you!

The cottage was great, location amazing and the only reason I am not giving this a 5 star rating is the access road. It does suggest you need a 4 x 4, however, on contacting was told it is accessible in a normal car. Unfortunately, we ended up having to park a considerable distance away from the cottage, after getting a puncture on day 1! If you have a 4 x 4 would highly recommend, but unless we invest in a land-Rover or the road is given some TLC, we would be unlikely to return. It is such as shame as everything else was perfect.

By Caroline Mearns/ Collins stayed in June 2021

Editor's Note: As per the accommodation information we do advise 4x4 and did say you may have to walk the track if you were in a normal car

Had a perfect week at Torr Na Locha, the weather was fantastic, the bluebells were out in the garden and the location is prefect if you want to get away from everything. The cottage was perfect for humans and dogs and everything was available to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your stay. We will be back next year. Thank you.

We had a really lovely week in this very comfortable cottage. It was great to meet the very friendly ponies and their owner. Despite all the covid restrictions and fairly wet weather we had a fantastic week. I would absolutely reccomend torr na locha to anyone. Thank you. ..(Also, the beds are extremely comfortable!)

We absolutely loved our stay at Torr Na Locha and will definitely be booking again. A lovely, cosy cottage with spectacular views and so very quiet and peaceful. We were blessed with incredibly good weather so were able to enjoy all the walks and beaches at their best. We've stayed in several cottages on Mull over the years and this is one of our absolute favourites! Fantastic location, an abundance of wildlife with a spectacular backdrop of beautiful scenery. Comfortable beds, good sized cottage with plenty of room for all of us plus dog. Well equipped kitchen for cooking all of our meals too

We had a perfect week there.. Everyday we see red deers in front of the house. Inside everything was very good. We like the kitchen and the bathtube. OK the street is very hard but when you drive slowly it is not a problem if you don't have a 4x4.. We hope we can comeback later.

We stay at lots of self catering cottages and I’m sorry but this did not meet expectations. We have 4x4 but still, the road is really unwelcoming. The WiFi almost never worked-you need to be honest about these things. Bed mattress was shockingly bad. Back pain every morning. The local farmer appeared at the house twice during the week. Not what we’d expected when we booked for seclusion. Not towels- not great. No welcome pack(like most good places)when all the shops close at 5.30pm. Our ferry was delayed so we arrived on the island at 6pm and there was nowhere to get food until the next day.

By Julie stayed in July 2019

Editor's Note: Thanks for your feedback Julie. In fairness, we do say the WiFi speed is slow in the description of the house, that it is 4x4 access only and that towels aren't provided. The owners do put in milk, tea and coffee etc. We haven't had bad feedback about the mattress from other guests who have stayed this year, but the owners will review that at the end of the season

Fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage. Loved the peace and tranquility and all the wildlife in the doorstep. The walk up the hill at the back offered amazing views across the peninsula. We had no problems with the track to the cottage so long as you drive carefully. The cottage itself is well equipped and very warm and cosy. Perfect for a family and ideal for a dog friendly holiday. It feels very remote (which we loved) but is only 3 miles from the well stocked spar shop. Lots of walks and places to visit we will definitely be back it’s quite simply the best place we have ever stayed in.

A lovely week in this clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage. The setting and the peaceful surroundings with the view across Loch Scridain are unbeatable. Where else could you sit out and have tea whilst watching a male hen harrier quartering the fields and red deer passing by? The track is easily negotiable with care so don't be put off. We will be back.

Sunshine every day with not a drop of rain in sight during our entire stay. An absolutely stunning location with wonderful views. The cuckoo wakened us in the morning and many deer passed by on the moor at various times of the day. The hillocks nar the house were blue with an abundance of wild hyacinths. A perfect holiday home, beautifully clean, well equipped and very cosy. The road didn't prove to be a hazard. Maybe some extra gravel on the difficult parts would be a bonus and make the journey to and from the house less hair-raising! We'll be back!

A fantastic cottage with everything you need for a holiday with friends family and 2 dogs in a beautiful location which looked particularly stunning in the fabulous & ever-changing weather we were lucky enough to have at Easter. Access via a very bumpy lane is challenging but was part of the fun . Beautiful beaches, great hiking & cycling routes and pretty secluded coves can be found all over Mull and trips to Iona and Tobermory were lovely. We've been holidaying all over Scotland for over 25 years and our whole group agreed this was one of the best :)

Absolutely loved the cottage and the location. Torr na Locha gives a great feeling of isolation and tranquility. The setting is stunning with a quick hike up the hill behind the property giving a 360 panorama of the local area. The coastline is a few minutes walk away which is great for fishing and wildlife spotting (seals/eagles/otters to name a few).
The property itself offers all you need. Great kitchen and living quarters with plenty of space for two families. Although the recommendation is for a 4x4 to navigate the 1/2 mile track we had no problem with our Mondeo. We'll be back.

As usual cottage lovely, missed the turkey and chickens this year, weather not so good this year, still enjoyed our stay with various trips all around beautiful Mull, managed to get some fishing in despite the weather, met some lovely people, the charity shop at Craignure always good for books.

We have stayed in many rentals in Scotland over the years - and this is one of the best. If you want a cosy, but spacious - isolated but accessible (with 4x4) - special place to stay... then this is it.
Mull is the place to go to see otters and eagles (Sea and Golden) and all kinds of other wildlife. Great walks from the cottage and many secluded beaches and lochs elsewhere on Mull to explore. For specific tips see our comments in cottage visitors book. Torr Na Locha is brilliant! :-)

The cosy cottage is in a truly stunning location with beautiful views up Loch Scridain, Ardmeanach peninsula, Ulva, Gometra and the Treshnish Isles. The cottage is very well equipped and served us well for the week. The only downside is the track is bumpy in places and loaded cars have to proceed with caution although my SUV handled it with ease. We visited Iona, Tobermory, Dervaig, Calgary Bay, Knockvologan and Kilvickeon beaches and Staffa. Unfortunately for us the weather and visibility was poor when driving down the west coast road from Calgary Bay (approx. 2hrs back to the cottage) so we never got to see the spectacular views from this road but we all thoroughly enjoyed our time on Mull and we will definitely return in the future.

We arrived to find the cottage spotlessly clean and full of character. It's setting is quite spectacular on the Ardtun peninsula - the location is very tranquill and ideal for a relaxing break. There is a wood burner in the living room that blasts out the heat if needed but even though we were there in March and it was cold outside, the heating kept the house very warm and comfortable. Would certainly recommend this cottage and hope to return. We were very taken with this part of Mull - close to Iona and a couple of shops and close to many spectacular beaches.

Weather could have been better but we enjoyed the time we spent inside the croft which was very comfortable and spacious. The views were spectacular, especially from the hill behind the croft. We didn't see as much bird and wildlife as usual but perhaps two small children and a dog had something to do with this! A very special place for a holiday - we go each year!

One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. Great views, although we had thought the access to walks around the house might have been better- we had not realise there were so many fences. We did encounter the most appalling weather, and everywhere was puddle-ridden, so that may colour our review! The track is definitely the most terrifying we have encountered and it is undeniable that only 4x4s can negotiate it without causing concern. Close to the most amazing beaches and of course, Iona, which we thought was a once in a lifetime experience.

Absolutely outstanding cottage & location. One of the best we have stayed in. Beautiful views from every window. Immaculate and caters for your every need. The turkey absolutely adorable, kept his distance in the adjacent field and just chatted over the gate to our two dogs so is a respectful neighbour. Track was no problem at all with a 4x4 as others have mentioned. Highly recommended.

This is a terrific house in a totally unbelievable location. The track is rough, but fine with care and the reward is total seclusion, far away from other houses. The views are gorgeous and sitting outside for breakfast on a sunny morning is lovely. We had a fantastic two weeks and found the house to be well equipped and comfortable. I certainly recommend it.

This was our first time on Mull and exceeded expectations - the location is wonderful - close to the sea, absolutely peaceful and private, and with good access to the Ross. As other guests have mentioned - the track is rough and needs careful negotiation. The cottage is warm and well-equipped, we didn't find ourselves hunting for anything. Would definitely come again and look forward to working on our relationship with the turkey.

Clean, comfortable and peaceful. Lovely location although hard to access without a 4X4 vehicle. Fenced/walled garden around house did not keep out sheep etc so the dogs had to be watched carefully for obvious reasons. Once the difficult track and gates had been negotiated, location was superb with access to nearby amenities of Bunessen and the amazing island itself.

I've been coming to Mull all my life (nearly 60 years!) and know the Ross really well. The cottage is in a lovely location and is very warm, comfortable and well equipped. Fairly easy access to lots of beaches and walks on the Ross, but the track is very rough with three gates, and hard work for a fully loaded saloon car. Animals adjacent in the field were lovely, but the noisy turkey was not very compatible with our dog, as it could fly into the garden! This meant that unfortunately our dog had to be on the lead all the time in the garden.

We have holidayed on Mull for over 40 years...this cottage is a lovely find. Close to the coast, wonderful Wildlife and only 15 mins from the ferry to Iona and Staffa. The cottage is very well equipped and furnished and very peaceful, having no neighbours. Do bear in mind that the track to the cottage is rough, and would be unsuitable for a low riding car. Any 4x4 will have no trouble. Good value for money and we would happily recommend it to others.
