Craignure Bay House is a firm favourite with guests and many return to stay again and again in this lovely modern home. The house has stunning sea views across the Sound of Mull towards Loch Linnhe and the Glencoe mountain ranges, showcased by the floor to ceiling windows that flood the house with natural light.
Owned by a descendent of the MacQuarie's of Ulva (famous for Lachlan MacQuarie, last Governor General of New South Wales commemorated at the MacQuarie mausoleum), this beautiful home offers all those little extras that will make your stay on Mull one to remember.
Parking behind the property you enter into a large hall. On the left, an opening leads into the beautiful open plan living, dining and kitchen area. This spacious room has high ceilings and sliding glass doors that open directly onto a wooden balcony, where the great views can be enjoyed with a morning coffee.
The living area is orientated around the large floor to ceiling windows. The highly efficient wood burning stove complements the underfloor heating to guarantee cosy comfort no matter what the weather. A selection of artwork by local artists further enhances the living space. The large dining table seats everyone in comfort and bridges the space between the living area and kitchen.
There are two bedrooms also on the ground floor. One is a twin bedroom and one is a double bedroom with a window/door that slides open to reveal views of the Sound of Mull. There is a shared family bathroom on this floor, which has a large walk in shower cubicle. A utility room with access to the garden is equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The stairs lead to a light and airy landing and two further bedrooms, both with modern ensuite facilities. There is one double bedroom, again with a window/door that slides open to give views out over the Sound of Mull, and a twin bedroom.
Amongst the comforts and entertainments provided to enhance your stay is a good wi-fi connection, ipod docking station and a selection of board games. The garden is nicely planted and has a picnic bench for outdoor dining. Just 10 metres opposite the front door, a coastal track winds though woodland to a part rocky, part sandy bay. The garden is fenced at the front (with a gate) to prevent access to the main road, but it is not fully enclosed.
Both Tobermory and Iona are around a 45-minute drive from the house, which makes it a great base from which to explore all that Mull has to offer. Situated on the edge of Craignure, guests can easily walk to the local shop for essentials and to the Craignure Inn for a bar meal or to sample the local ale. The house is only a short walk to the swimming pool and spa at the Isle of Mull Hotel and a 10-minute drive from Duart Castle and its tearoom (also a great spot for sea fishing).
