Achnacraig Cottage is a stone built farmhouse nestled along the flank of Glen Bellart, a short distance from the picturesque village of Dervaig in north-western Mull. Sleeping up to six people, this is a well-equipped, spacious holiday cottage that is traditionally furnished with huge oak beams, stone arches and an inglenook fireplace.
Stay here and just a short and scenic 15-minute drive separates you from Calgary Bay, one of the island's best beaches. There are breathtaking coastal walks and beaches within easy reach, as well as a wealth of wildlife to be spotted in this area. Guests can also pedal their way peacefully through the glen on the two adult mountain bikes, which are provided for you to enjoy during your stay.
Entering the hall, to the left is the main living room. This spacious room has a beautiful inglenook fireplace, comfortable furniture and a separate dining area, perfect for sociable, hearty dinners at the end of a day filled with adventure. There are a selection of books and games provided, and windows on both sides of the room with attractive outlooks. There is also a wall that opens into the separate kitchen, creating a relaxed, open-plan feel. The kitchen itself is separate, well-equipped and conveniently overlooks the main living room, so you can cook and chat at the same time.
The bedrooms are all located upstairs and include a master double with ample storage, as well as two twin bedrooms. Each room leads off the main landing, making this holiday cottage an ideal choice for families.
Achnacraig is nestled in mature gardens, which guests are welcome to use and enjoy during their stay. The well-tended lawns, beautiful planted flower beds and mature trees make this a lovely outdoor space in which to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and take in the views of the surrounding hills. In the neighbouring paddock are the animals that live on the croft. There are sheep, geese, and Hector and Hamish, the resident donkeys, who are sure to delight guests and children especially during their stay.
The local village of Dervaig, just five minutes away in the car, has a very well stocked, friendly village shop and post office, and is home to Mull's oldest inn, which serves food too. Heading south from Achnacraig, the island's east coast and village of Salen is soon reached. Here you will find a petrol station, shops, post office, cafe and restaurant. This cottage offers the perfect balance of a rural location with the luxury of having every amenity close to hand for a fuss-free getaway.
The cottage is insulated to the highest of standards and as a result, it is a warm house in which to relax, no matter what the weather. Achnacraig is an original farmhouse dating from when the property was a working farm. The only other occupied building here is the owner's home, which adjoins the cottage, off the main square.
